First produced in NY in 1949, DOS won the Pulitzer
Prize and the Tony Award for best play. Its central character, Willy Loman, has become an American classic, the tired, worn-out salesman whose dreams have disintegrated as he struggles to come out on top. Riddled with a sense of self-guilt and failure, he finally decides that a man "can be worth more dead than alive," and makes the ultimate sacrifice. Willy's tragedy is revealed gradually through his interactions with his wife Linda, sons Happy and Biff, his neighbor, boss, and other associates. This is a remarkable play, extraordinary in its directness, clarity, strength of characters and universal themes.
